The ‘Around The Pearl’ ride is organised by SPINNER Cycling in partnership with Travel Partner Antiquity, on behalf of the Wheels For Wheels Foundation and works in partnership with the Cerebral Palsy Lanka Foundation (CPLF) to facilitate the wheelchair project for the children with Cerebral Palsy.

Since its inception in 2014, Around the Pearl has raised substantial funds and donated over 2600 wheelchairs island wide as an initial step towards reaching the herculean challenge of providing 10,000 wheelchairs. Visit Wheels For Wheels Foundation.

What is cerebral palsy

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a condition that affects muscle control and movement. It is usually caused by an injury to the brain before, during or after birth (Scope, 2014). It is one of the most prevalent physical disabilities in childhood ‐ globally almost 17 million people have CP. Although no scientific research has been done on the prevalence of CP in Sri Lanka, research carried out globally into the prevalence of CP (Gladstone, 2010) suggests that the prevalence in Sri Lanka may be at least 0.2%. This means that there are likely to be more than 40,000 persons in Sri Lanka with this condition (Sunday Times, 2011).

About Wheels for Wheels Foundation

Around The Pearl is an initiative of Wheels for Wheels, a charity with the ultimate goal of donating 10,000 wheelchairs to children with Cerebral Palsy. This is an ambitious and daunting target but Wheels for Wheels strongly believes that helping alleviate even some of the pain and suffering children with CP endure every day, is worth all the effort. Hopefully with the help of concerned citizens like you, we can make a genuine difference in their lives.
